I got Simon when he was 4 years old from a very close friend of mine (Mary). He was already a feather plucker, and was starting to get stress rings on his head feathers. Mary was concerned about him, and also felt that her other large birds were some of the cause of his neurotic behavior. She had been trying to find him a home for a long time, but I would not take him because Michael would say ok at first then the noise would cause me to have to find him a new home. I would not do that to the poor soul, so for months I said that I would help try to find a good home for him. Well he found a good home alright. He has been with me for 2 and half years and is a wonderful bird. He ended up being my husbands bird, and will do anything for him ( except stop plucking) Mary and I took him to the Vet together to have any and every test done on him to see if there was a cause of his plucking. There was no medical reason for his behavior, so we were advised to try him on birdie Prozac. Mary and I both decided that we could not put him through the shots every month, besides he wouldn’t be Simon anymore. He is absolutely beautiful the way he is. His favorite thing to do is to sing with us while in the shower. He has a rather large vocabulary and still comes up with some from out of the blue. He always keeps us smiling.
